Nothing here but a general interest photograph. Periodically I like add an image that may give some perspective, maybe a little history, to the places we shoot.

This is a very common scene along the Lowcountry coast. Long piers lead out to an open canal through a marsh. These canals will lead to bigger open waterways. Here Charleston Harbor is directly behind this marsh pier.

A hoist is used to move boats in / out of the marshes. These piers are everywhere and some ridiculously long.

Enlarging this image show Fort Pinckney (Flag flying) off in the distance, right side in the harbor.

This was first built in the Revolutionary War, rebuilt in 1810, and for a short while was a civil war prison. Now it’s a rock ‘whatever’  type fort. Plaque on a wall and I’m not sure you can get there at all. I never thought about a visit.

Maybe this is the method used for a visit. Again, the fort on the right side.
