This is the second of two articles publishing images of large wading birds landing near their nests. Here the Great Blue Heron uses a similar method to an Egret to make a safe landing.
The Great Blue is a large bird and the huge wing span slows the bird down but not the same as an Egret.
Most times I have watched the Blues they will try to fly below the nest and finally climb up higher right before the landing. Pulling back their wings again allows them to stand upright at the last minute.
Now… this is my observation only on the different landing techniques. There are hundreds of images of both birds landing on this site. Just sayin…
