Anhinga, Drying Her Wings

The classic Anhinga pose, wings spread and drying.  Like Cormorants they have no oils for their feathers. After diving and swimming under the water they cannot fly. Not a good thing for a bird in a swamp with predators.

If they are in a good spot they flutter up to low branches. I have seen them climb using their beak and wings to reach a place to dry.

When not wet they are striking birds.
