I have been wanting to photograph this house since I first found it. Out with some other photographers, we were caught in a storm right here (click to view) . This is not the best place to ride out a storm.

The Boynton family raised cattle on the old plantation lands. This house was built in the early 1900’s. That’s an important fact considering where this is. Over 8,000+ acres of marsh and swamp lands surround the house .

Mary’s Island Plantation is now Donnelley Wildlife Management Area, owned and run by SC Department of Natural Resources.

Even today this would be an incredibly hard place to live so I can’t imagine what the early 1900’s would have been like. Besides the current snakes, alligators, coyotes, bugs, and boars… wolves and panthers were still here.
