It’s that time of year and the Red Wings are out in force. The shoulder epaulets are vibrant.

There are 2 birds I have noticed that are strikingly different in southern marshes when compared to their northern cousins.

Above the red and yellow are so much brighter than I have seen before.

Also Bluebirds are much more vivid. Perhaps the food source of true wild grains makes the difference.
