I had not intended to make this a multi article series (Click For Part 1)but I captured a few decent photographs that present a fishing ‘skim’ in action.
The following were taken as a Black Skimmer flew down a tidal marsh inlet looking for fish.
In the above you can see the small wake made in the water by the birds lower beak skimming over the surface.
In the fall these birds gather in flocks numbering hundreds on the empty beaches. South Carolina coastal areas can have Black Skimmers year round, however a large number will move slowly south going as far as South America.
