In an instant this Little Blue went from sitting quiet to being aware of danger.
There was nothing to hear, probably just enough movement to get his attention.
An Alligator had been slowly circling around the Cypress for some time. Very young Wood Ducks with no adults are here.
Even being out of the water this Little Blue Heron knows enough to keep aware of Alligators. He feeds here too.
This little blue heron is so great in the photo where he is looking so intently into the water, Ted!
I’m not sure how he even knew the gator was waiting below. The Little Blue was flying down to the water, fishing, and going back up. The Alligator has started to cruise around this part of the swamp, making a full circle of the Cypress trees. The number of young Wood Ducks is diminishing, but he is not the only Alligator right around here. However this one is pretty brazen. He swam up to us several times and splashed the water with his tail or by jumping. A territory thing.
