This group of Roseate Spoonbills were feeding, at a fast pace. At first they were not all that close, but surprised me by continuing to work closer.
I did not have my monopod so these were handheld, which is fine until they stay close in for a long time. The gear is heavy and I must lower my arms once in a while, no choice. My movement will be spotted, it’s all about how they react to it
You will notice in all these photographs there is one bird who is always glancing my direction. My shutter was on silent (slowing the per second shots down) but these are wild birds and well aware of their surroundings.
This was a great day for capturing the Spoonbills. It’s all about timing, being out there often, and luck. Which you make by being out there.

🙂 thanks. We had gone out to these marshes 4 times last week, hot and miles into the marshland. Only once did we have a large flock, up close. I appreciate when we get these shots. Swamps are easy, this is real work. I’m guessing there won’t be many days of group portraits (last year we only had a few days too).
