Young Black Vulture, My Perspective

I used the ‘My Perspective’ in the title since I know Ellen, PassingByPhoto, previously published this encounter.

This is at the end of a dirt road entering part of the marshes. At this point the dikes and road are closed and blocked by a metal ‘farm’ gate.

The Vulture was actually sitting on the ground when we arrived (Ellen mentioned this) and I was elected to reason with him.

They are about 2 1/2 feet (68 cm) tall. Here I am walking along making ‘shoo shoo’ noises and gesturing with my hands. Not my finest hour, best I could come up with at the moment.

I am thankful it did not occur to Ellen to left up the camera she was holding.

The bird did ‘shoo’, hopping along in front of me. And next flew to the gate for a few photographs.

Vultures are common here, and do serve an important function. More than that, they are pretty interesting animals.
