Gave Me The Spot, Alligator

It can be hard to quickly judge the size of an Alligator. Big head and jowls means large, but how large. Most of an Alligator is their tail. Distance between nose and eyes is just an overall guesstimate.

To add a little more confusion for me… my camera settings. After a general quick look the camera is up, in my eye. Now I am also scanning through my viewfinder, with custom settings all around the edges. I see speed, f stops, ISO, mode, shutter rate, a light meter, and a crazy blinky thing that I ignore.

This is the same Alligator that watched me shooting over his head (click to view Fun Shot) a little earlier. I walked back to shoot the scene behind him again.

It turned out he was larger than I thought and he was not going to just lay there this time.

After giving me a quick look he simple stood up taller, and rolled back into the bushes and the water.

I didn’t want to bother him, he and I were perfectly safe where he was. I pretty much ruined his nap…again an assumption.
