Green Heron, A Rule Reinforced

It’s a simple rule, made even easier in a digital world…

Always Take The Shot.

The more complicated version is ‘first get those shots offered, then do your setup’.

The opportunity presents itself and you take advantage of it best you can, using what you have memorized over time. Trick is to not over think it.

Above the green guy is stalking and ready for the strike.

So why all the ‘babble’?  I didn’t get any other shots, I stopped and glanced at the histogram and screen and saw it was dark.

Broke the rule. The photographs above are OK, not great but a stab into the water from above could have made a nice series. I didn’t go for the shot I knew was coming. It did, but I looked away.

I’ll consider this a refresher course and hope next time a few more clicks will be instinctive.

  1. Amazes me how the heron can lock onto the branch so tightly and hold that position while waiting to strike. When it does strike I don’t know how it doesn’t plummet into the water. I guess its claws have a very strong lock-on system!
