This photograph was part of a series taken a few months ago. I managed to catch the Owl in the shallow water. Bullfrogs and Crayfish are abundant here.
I came across this image in the ‘to do’ and used a filter to lighten the photos top half. It was dark under the heavy leaf canopy.
Barred Owls have been nesting in the area for a few years now. On this day there were 2 moving around the cypress trees.
I love all the photos that you and Ellen have taken of this gorgeous creature. Seems so unusual to me, seeing an owl right down at water level!
That’s where the food is 😀. This small swamp has had Owls for a few years. Right now they hunt there every AM. The problem is mosquitoes. Thousands at a time.
So lovely! Beautiful detail and background.
Thanks. Owls nest and hunt there. Very swampy, and of course bugs.
majestic
They have a presence
Oh I just LOVE this photo! I’m so jealous, I’ve been trying to find myself an owl to photograph, or at least to see one in the wild for 4 years, and haven’t had any luck. This one is my unicorn…. one day.
I had the same problem for years. Now I’m positive I had walked past plenty and never knew they were there. Hang in there 😀😀
Oh, I’m sure I probably have had owls watching me instead of the other way around. I actually think it’s that way with a lot of things. I always wonder when walking through a rainforest how many snakes I am missing out on that must be watching me walk past them!
We have Alligators jump right next to us and we never did see them hiding. Missing things happens all the time.
That would terrify me!
It gets your attention 😂😂, but too late. They’re in the water.
