The other day I was lucky enough to capture Little Blue Herons in the same swamp area, but at different times in their life. This set of images is a young bird, most likely 5-6 months old.

Until around 18 months these Herons are white.

The color of the bill is dark at the tip, fading to a light blue/gray closer to their head. Also their legs are a green tint.

Once you know these rules, and remember to look before they fly away, most times you can accurately ID them.
