A Little Blue Heron (1)

The other day I was lucky enough to capture Little Blue Herons in the same swamp area, but at different times in their life. This set of images is a young bird, most likely 5-6 months old.

Until around 18 months these Herons are white.

The color of the bill is dark at the tip, fading to a light blue/gray closer to their head. Also their legs are a green tint.

Once you know these rules, and remember to look before they fly away, most times you can accurately ID them.

In another article soon to be published, under the same title, I will show the adult found nearby as a comparison.
