This was photographed at a Trappist Monastery. The water must have been treated with an herbicide. At first my assumption was nothing would be in or around the ponds.

I should have known better.  These guys have been around longer than humans. If you look at his neck, the waterline, you will see tiny minnows nibbling on his scales.
