This was all about lucky timing. This large group was feeding and moving along a marsh canal just as I walked to an open spot. All around was tall reeds except here.

The vantage point also gave me an elevated view, the canal was almost dry. If you are a Spoonbill fan click and enlarge these images. There are many different positions and movements for the birds, a good detailed view.

Even better, they moved just a short distance away, feeding head down, and did a complete about face. That gave me the chance to move ahead of them and find another place with short reeds.
It worked out well.
