Spoonbills fish different than most any other wading bird.
Prey is small fish, crustaceans, and insects that may be in the shallows or mud. To catch them a Spoonbill will walk and quickly swing their head back and forth, stirring up the water.

When in a group the water all around is stirred up.

Sometimes they will just charge straight ahead without looking. They do find fish that way, they crash a bit too.
