These short broken reeds seem to be a favorite hiding place for the Tricolored Herons. This time I found at least 4, of different ages, resting here.
There were juveniles among them so this might have been a family unit still traveling together. Typically they would be squawking and chasing each other, not staying as a group.
Above you can see how they can disappear in the reeds when being still.
