Black-crowned Night Herons are beautiful; ruby red eyes, contrasting blue and white, and a long flowing head plume.
Now throw in these fall colors and a standard wildlife image takes on a new look.

I (think) the trick to these colors was a change of White Balance here. Earlier I had been trying to compensate for the cloudy day.

Canon has a few menu options that I rarely use, the ‘predefined’ white balance is one of them. I may need to rethink that now.
Quite a beautiful bird!
The adults really are. Most are too shy to get a photograph so I think it’s luck finding one like this.
