This is a series that starts, and ends, in the same place. In between Great Blue Herons act foolish.

The start was the Heron, and me, on a dike road. I spotted the bird as I began to walk along the marsh. Approaching slowly so as not to scare him we both were doing fine.
However…

From over my shoulder another Great Blue entered the scene, with that unique loud squawk. The first bird did a quick exit to avoid a crash with this new comer.

The invader knows he has taken the field and is the victor. He settles down in newly claimed territory.

My original Heron is off and gone down the dike.

Flush with his victory the new owner takes the exact same spot as the previous tenant. Right in front of me.
OK, now what should we do?
I think the heron is expecting you to fly away too, Ted.
He didn’t chase me, so that’s a good thing LOL
Nice action series!
Thanks 😀. You were still behind, down the beginning of the dike.
