Touch Down, Black And White, Stork

This image nicely displays the multiple layers of feathers on big wading birds.

The second layer of wing feathers are called ‘Coverts’, looking almost like a cape on some large birds.

Coverts are very pronounced on a Wood Stork since the main flight feathers are black, the coverts white.

They always add some contrast to any image of a Wood Stork landing.
