I am always in awe of the big birds feathers, wings, and how they take off and land. There are so many layers, lengths, and angles.
A basic rule of interest is never show the back of a bird, why would you since it’s pretty much a butt shot.

This Great Egret gave a demonstration of flying and gently landing. They’re pretty big animals so it’s not an easy feat.

I photographed the full sequence from approach to soft touch down. It was dark, but I caught the wing actions. I think it’s fascinating, so I built a gallery.
