I may have a new favorite photograph of the Herons.
The male here was alone and calling for at least a week. She finally arrived. And she is coy and a beauty !
The light was coming at an angle and made wonderful shadows here. The female was quiet, the male being very attentive. His long flowing frontal feathers covered her as they settled in for the evening.

Both birds were still unsure and on alert, their top crown feathers standing tall.
This image shows many details and behaviors that I can’t always capture in the usual Heron photographs.
Wonderful photo and interesting observations!
Thank you. I do like this photograph for all the little things it captured.
