Family Portrait, Herons

Family Portrait, Herons

A quiet moment. There don’t have too many of those.

Note; if you enlarge this photograph you can see a small stick, or reed, protruding from under the adults bill. This is a common wound out there. Herons quickly stab into the water for prey, at times getting hurt in the process.

This image was taken about 10 days ago, the adult is still there caring for the now half grown juvenile. No stick to be seen.

  1. The baby is so funny but soon he will turn into a beautiful and graceful heron! Unique and magnificent photograph!

  2. Thanks so much. It is truly amazing to photograph this. As they get older we hopefully will catch their first flights. Last year we were lucky to see them. One landed within arms length last year. First they learn to fly, next they learn to land 😀😀
