Still Tending The Nest, Egret

Still Tending The Nest, Egret

Nesting, and the young, occurs based on species, and size. Size was the thing I first noticed when photographing rookeries.

The breeding starts with the largest, Great Blue Heron. They can start in February here. About 2 months later, the Great Egrets. Anhinga a little after them.

Finally the smaller wading birds like Night Heron, Snowy Egret in May.

The overlap is minimal so danger to the young is for a short time.

Above is one of the last Egret to breed, small young are down low.

Most of the Great Blue juveniles are flying now.
