When any of the larger wading birds land they pretty much follow the same steps. For me it’s good to know since I can follow them for the shot. Even with no camera it’s great to see because all of the bird, it’s wings, and positions are on display.
The first step is glide towards the landing spot. No flapping of their wings.
Then the bird will pull back their wings, leaning backwards to almost stand. Their wings act as breaks, and the are slowly standing upright.
I love it because all the different types of wing feathers come into play.
