She wasn’t really close enough. The light green swamp grasses made for great color though. So I took the shots.

There are always plenty of the black birds out there. Getting a clear shot is a problem. Some places the grasses are taller than a person now.

  1. Nice shots, Ted. Unlike the male, the female of this species is tough to find and photograph. I remember well the first time I photographed a female Red-winged Blackbird and someone had to explain to me that it was not a large sparrow as I had supposed. As a complete neophyte in the world of birdwatching, I was mystified that the bird was neither black nor had red wings, yet was still called a Red-winged Blackbird.
