Shooting from a small boat gives a much different perspective.

You are not a threat to Pelicans, maybe the opposite. They follow commercial boats getting scraps and bait. A small boat means nothing so the opportunities are pretty good.

Tide is always moving here and this Key has rolling waves, so you will miss many great shots.

However, it’s not like we are new at this either. We’ll get our share of keepers too.

  1. I have always wondered how it would be to photograph birds from a small boat. They rent canoes and kayaks here in the Washington DC area, but I have never tried it out (and would worry about tipping over with my photo gear).

    1. Canoe or kayak would not be my choice either…same reason though I know people who do it all the time. Here we use a small motor boat big enough for about 6 and can take the ocean swells.

Practice and fast and fast shutter speeds. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€
