It’s hurricane season on the South Carolina coast. And the Pelicans know how to deal with it.

Besides the big hurricanes this is the windy high tide time, like the photographs here.
Pelicans work with the tide. The fly out a little off shore, land, and let the wind and tide push them to the inlets.

Brown Pelicans dive from above to catch fish. In a big wind that doesn’t work. However, problem solved.

They hop up, catch the wind, and skim over the surface to drop down on a catch.

It must work because a few dozen were doing it. And, the minute the tide stopped coming in they flew off as a flock. There was no incoming tide to push the fish so they left.
