Wooden Ramps, For The Locals

In many of our articles, on the various web sites, wooden ramps can be seen in the photographs. I don’t remember ever explaining them. Here is a quick update.

Most of the ramps are old and around the swamps and marshes on Magnolia Plantation (and others) , property.  There are a few other places but mostly in the plantation lands swamps and marshes.

It was originally to give Alligators a safe place to rest, out of the water, and away from people. Plantations have tourist who like to explore the trails.

Other ramps have been added around the area, like above, that while nice for Alligators are probably better for the swamp birds. This one is higher above the water.

The Alligators love them and may stay on them all day. Plenty of distance in many places to keep ‘pesky’ people from doing pesky things.

Herons and Egrets use them and while at times share them, even with small gators.

However…

There is a flaw in the idea. Alligators do what they have done for thousands of years.

Anything they want. They were here first.
