The fall marshes have pretty shades of brown and gold now. Reeds are thick and sturdy plants and remain standing long after they have dried and turned.
The tall thin marsh birds are almost invisible when standing nearby. If they don’t move it’s easy to miss them completely.

Above is one of several Tricolored Herons photographed the other day. I think his reflection gave him away as much as anything.

They take advantage of the reeds and hide there. Sometimes one, other times several in the same area.
