Sighting Northern Shovelers

I didn’t even try to sneak up on these ducks. This was a large open water marsh and they had already seen me. Not sure how far I was but I certainly pushed the lens out close to 600mm.

Non photographers when seeing a big lens assume you can grab a shot from miles away. At times you can, just not one that’s any good. Atmosphere and light are ‘zoomed’ also and always affect the image.

The Northern Shoveler  has a prominent beak making an ID easier even from a distance. I love these good looking birds and will try to push the distance to get a image.

Click to view full screen, the beak and vibrant eyes are worth it.
