From a walk around an old southern cemetery.
Above is an old mausoleum sitting among the headstones. Most of these old structures are brickwork, but covered in a thick plaster/cement finish. It is very similar to the tabby work of the 1700’s.
Unlike a modern cemetery the different sections are not in neat organized rows. Here old wrought iron fences and brick work separate plots.
The brick walls have held up, the old iron is now rusted out and in places leaning over.
A group in Charleston is organizing night time visits to these cemeteries. We are thinking of joining one. Besides the fun ‘old ghost stories’ they will tell historical details will be included. That is of great interest to me. Now I constantly dig around web sites looking for small tidbits.
