We were following a large group of small Egrets and Ibis when this Great Blue dropped in.

I think he spotted all the commotion and feeding so made a quick stop to get in on the action.

He came in suddenly and rather than a slow glide it was a hit the ground standing. There was a lot of feeding and now he was the biggest one here and going to get his share.

Was he making a shadow for fishing? Or trying to takeoff? Beautiful moment captured btw.
This was a quick landing. They usually don’t stand as far upright when coming down but there was a school of fish here. Thanks.
Amazing photos, his wing span is just gorgeous, he looks like he is doing a little dance. Such a gorgeous bird.
The Great Blues could be the most photogenic of the big birds. Beautiful creatures. Breeding season is just starting so we should be capturing many more in flight Great Blues. Photographed several just yesterday since we live near a swamp rookery.
That would be so awesome to see their young after they hatch.
Stayed tuned…we photograph their cycle. You can also search on this page for A Tale Of Two Herons. A series documenting the struggle of two young chicks
I will look for it thank you Ted.
Cool!
Thanks
