If you look close you can see the terror in his eyes.
Shot wide to show his plight, poor guy.

Every year there is one like him, slow learner.

He needs to fly over the open swamp water (Alligators) and begin to get some height to access the rookery trees.

He is aiming for some tall Cypress Trees, thick branches, on a small island. There needs to be a space in the branches for him to fly through. There is and hundreds of Herons have done this trick before.

Just not him I guess.

He will miss this opening about half the time he tries.
A miss and he needs to circle the swamp, come in low, and repeat the maneuver…until he gets it right. Eventually he will get the tricks, just takes some longer than others.
Oh yeah, I stand back and cheer him on. Very funny.
Is he new to this, I wonder?
Might be first breeding year but typically the ‘old timers’ are the ones smart enough to grab the good spots early. He appears to have a ‘lady friend’ so I hope he gets better at returning to the right spot.
I hit send too soon LOL.
So far this same bird has missed the nest, landed on the wrong one (and took a beating), and brought his lady friend a tiny twig…he needs to step up his game!!
