Most of the photographs of White Ibis lately have been along the Florida shore or salt marshes. They prefer that but plenty live in swamps too.
These birds are navigating through Cypress Tree Knees (roots) in a South Carolina swamp.
The Cypress Knee may be more dangerous than Alligators or Cottonmouths. I have never been bit, but have been beaten and bruised plenty by a Cypress.
Ahhhh, cypress knees. I don’t know why, but they are my favorite foliage feature of the swamp, second only to the hanging curtains of Spanish Moss. On the Red Trail in the Okefenokee Swamp, there is a small, dark cove about 5 or 6 miles up from Billy’s Lake full of cypress knees.
