Low light here, past dawn but the sun was not glaring on the water. In this marsh when you are facing anywhere even near east shooting will be a struggle.
Plenty of Avocet were within photograph range but you can’t wait for perfect light, they will be long gone.
Take the shot, your best guess on what could look good, and hope for the best.

Thank you. A few years ago I made an image like this from a silhouette shot. Saved the settings as a Lightroom preset. One in a while I use it as a starting point.
