The world is even hard on the Alligator here. A baby is very small and a good meal.

A Heron has been seen catching young gators in this spot, I assume it was this one back for more.

There was a problem here though. In the brush ahead was a big Alligator. Sitting and watching.
Reptiles lay eggs, and leave…except an Alligator. The female will look over her young for almost 2 years.
I donβt know if the Heron knew she was around, but he stopped and turned before getting too close.

There is some pay back here. An adult Alligator will eat a Great Blue if hungry (itβs hard work so they must be very hungry).
I have heard of all the predators that baby alligators have, but have never seen one picked off by a heron. Loving birds and loving gators, I don’t know which one to cheer for in that fight! Great blog! William — “What a wildly wonderful world, God! You made it all, with Wisdom at Your side, made earth overflow with your wonderful creations.” Psalms 104 The Message
Thanks so much. Recently a few photographers were together when the Great Blue were spotted grabbing Alligators. I was not there, missed an opportunity. However my wife and I were likely somewhere else, shooting another natural scene. Thanks for visiting with us π
