Common Gallinule

Common Gallinule

An uncommon photograph of a common bird.

These birds, a Moor Hen, live all over the swamps and marshes. However what is here uncommon is a good look at their feet. They are always standing in water.

The big feet, long wide toes, are made for running on the top of surface plants, and with a good start and flapping wings, water.

They run screaming when excited.

Oh, and they swim too. But I’m never sure they aren’t walking along the bottom mud.

  1. Yes, odd birds. Like “swamp chickens” or something. Great photos! William — “What a wildly wonderful world, God! You made it all, with Wisdom at Your side, made earth overflow with your wonderful creations.” Psalms 104 The Message

  2. I love finding the unexpected in my feed from your blog! Also was fun to imagine this bird running and screaming in excitement, like a middle school kid. What a beautifully peculiar bird.
