This is a scene of the adults swapping duties. There is a tiny fuzzy head just noticeable in the nest.
The Heron that had been guarding the nest was thrilled to get some time off. Above the bird is calling out while the other one lands.
Greetings between Great Blues can be loud enough to hear from a long distance. It’s very distinctive and when heard we can safely assume there is some activity at a Heron nest.
The adult who was free to leave wasted little time. A big hello, and then goodbye.
Focus on the last shots can be tricky. While it’s obvious they are about to jump and fly the branches around and behind the Heron easily grab focus instead of the bird. The take off is under a second…you either get the focus or not.
More times than I like it’s the ‘not’.
