So, I’m standing watching this Anhinga walk across this old ramp.
Watching one, doing nothing, is not very exciting. I even decided to photograph her doing nothing. Even less exciting.
Except for one small thing, Anhinga can’t walk. That’s right. Short stubby legs, in the wrong place! Also really big floppy web feet, they’re huge.
What happens! She slips, on a flat board.
Water is splashing and she is a fraction of a second from falling in.
Just like a person, she recovers, looks around, and then pretends nothing happened at all.
Except I was photographing and didn’t let up on the shutter. Now it’s public for all to see.
Wonderful series of shots and narrative, Ted. The anhinga’s reaction is priceless and reminds me of one time I was riding my bicycle and skidded on some loose sand and went down. I remember well that my first reaction was to look around and make sure nobody had seen the spill. Only them did I check to see that I and my bike were both ok.
LOL, we all have done that 😂😂. Anhingas feet are so awkward I have seen them fall out of a tree into the water 😂
This is great!😂
Clumsy on land, thanks.
I didn’t know that Anhinga can’t walk. She struggled and was so awkward but made it. Excellent moments and photos!
Thank you. Their feet and leg position is too awkward for land. Like a Pelican 😀😀😀
…a dancer…
Clumsy dancer…
… you know that it depends on many things!
