It started out as a joke. Alligators were ‘popping out’ of the wet grass along the trail. We wanted to keep a count.
Eventually we gave up. Then we came up with 15 in 50 meaning in this 50 foot (15 meter) spot we had 15 Alligator. That’s a lot.
I say we gave up counting because the next 50 feet, had close to the same.
They were all covered in the wet ‘marsh muck’ so we probably missed some too.
None were over 5 feet (1.5 meter) and most around 3.
We walked about 2 miles (3.2 k) and well over 100 were out when we left.
I get the feeling this is probably a safer place then a mile down the trail. The big locals live there.
Love it!
Thanks. At one point, and I still haven’t look at the images, we walked along and just took shot after shot. The banks were lined with them. All under 4-5 years old. We started calling this marsh the ‘nursery’. We never see any under 8 feet in the far marsh and ponds. Maybe they know enough to stay away.
Wow!!
That’s what I said 😂😂.
