I had never even heard of one until until seeing a little ‘panda’ looking thing run by in a pine forest. They are the biggest Squirrel in North America.
There are actually three variations of the Fox, the southern one is the most distinctive.
This Fox lives in Pine forests, swamps, and marshes. That pretty much describes the Lowcountry.
Unlike other Squirrels this one is shy and keeps away from people, no hand feeding peanuts to him.
The Fox in these shots may be the only one I have ever seen stay around like this.
Amazing creature! What a big swishy tail 🙂
I have never seen any outside this area of Pines and Marsh.
That is a completely new species for me. It does not look so neat as its colleagues to me. With such a tail, a fox must indeed have been involved …
I saw photographs of the other 2 variations and they look like a normal squirrel to me.
I learn something new every day, it seems. I was familiar with a number of different species of squirrels, but not this one.
This first time I saw one I did a double take. I only just learned of the three different types. And they live in the exact environment here that I found written up in the research I did.
Incredible!
Thank you very much 🙏
