This was taken at an abandon rookery. The smaller wading birds have not nested here for around two years. In years past this spot was bedlam.
Looking over the swamp I spotted this Night Heron just in time, as he slowed to land inside the thick trees.
Night Herons are fast so at the time I had no expectations of these being any good.
Above, as he pulled back to slow down, I could hear another one calling out.
Right before this bird disappeared I could see the shape of another hidden in the branches.
I still am not convinced the changing water and dry land will bring back the nests. But this is a good start.
