Dragonfly, Long Lens

Dragonfly, Long Lens

Unlike photographers who specialize in this subject I rely on chance and a long lens. Not the patience and planning of a Mike Powell or Pete Hillman.

These were taken at 500+ mm with a swamp as background.

The depth of field (focus on furthest point in the subject) is usually off since I’m set for moving wildlife at the time.

If I spot a cooperative tiny critter I’ll go for the shot anyway.

  1. The detail youโ€™re able to capture from so far is impressive. The tiny hairs, the pattern on the wings, amazing! ๐Ÿ‘

  2. Full kudos for getting images this sharp with a long lens, Ted! I took my long lens out today for the first time in an age looking for butterflies. I may as well have taken the macro, as I still virtually got on top of them.
