A Skimmer Skimming

A Skimmer Skimming

Everything needs to come together for decent Black-necked Skimmer shots. When the pieces fall into place it’s one of the greatest shows around.

Twisting and turning at high speed they lightly touch the surface with their lower beak.

A catch means a quick head snap, closed bill, and then back at it.

Shots like this are among my favorites. This photograph caught the birds ‘catch light’ in his eye as well as the small splash where the bill broke the surface. I can plan for these, but reality is I need to take a gazillion shots to get everything right. LOL.
