I don’t think we found a single slow, calm, bird today. Black Skimmers are one of the fastest and most acrobatic of birds so of course today they came around.
I am out of practice. They wore me down.
Hand holding 600 mm for the day, after a lock down and only slower animals means I will be sore tomorrow.
This one here worked the big marshes at full speed and had the small fish flying in the air every time he passed over the surface.
Thought I would publish a few quick fun shots before went to work on the days (900) images.
I have never seen this bird before, it’s beautiful with his red and black bill bill and strong wings. Very inspirational shots!!!
This bird flies low over the water, the lower beak just touching the surface. When it feels a fish the bill slams shut. The bottom bill is much longer then the top, like a shovel.
One of the fastest and most acrobatic birds. They can flip upside down and make complete U turns n an instant.
Thank you for telling more about these birds, they are very special.
