Young Whistling Ducks At The Box

It must be a trend ( click here Ducks, Owl Box), except these were using a Wood Duck box.

I’ve never seen any Wood Ducks around here, still if the Whistling want them that’s great.

    1. Here too, we have every predator imaginable. These Whistling Ducks don’t do very well in our swamps and marshes. The big hawks know exactly where they are…just photographed one stalking a Whistling Duck. I think my being in the same area gave the Duck another day.

    2. I think they mostly go after them here in winter when finding fish may be harder. Especially when there is ice on the Hudson River. In Spring after their eggs have hatched eagles will bring in a variety of things to feed their young. Fish is most popular but we have seen squirrels, opossums, and other things we could not figure out.
