When we first spotted him fly up from a canal we had no idea what it was. Early morning and the light was very different than the last stop here (click to view the photograph).

To get anything that might be usable it was ‘venture’ into the bug zone.
Morning mosquitoes can be brutal here, and they were. This is real swamp skeeter stuff like you see in the movies. They like ‘bug repellent’,Β it helps them find you in the dark.

I grabbed these shots and quickly backed out…and scratched.
There was a lot happening here see we stayed, but paid the price later. Ellen really doesn’t like itchy bug bites…
Love the writing and the photos. π

ππ, thanks. I have been to swamps and jungles around the world and found places here rival just about anywhere ππ. At one place we used a repellent that actually worked, unfortunately it melted some camera parts πππ. We now use the standard stuff and leave quickly when it doesnβt work.

Ted, is this a young one of the adult white ibis with blue eyes?

Thatβs the one. Like a lot of white wading birds the young are darker for about a year.
