This bridge started out spanning the channel to the Charleston side as floating barrels and boards. Before that there might have been a ferry here. Ultimately it was the first bridge for cars.
It’s still in use, but more as a place to rest and fish from for the local harbor birds. Brown Pelican spend all day here.

Herons and Kingfisher compete with the Pelican for prime spots. Photographers have been seen around here too.
