This is a pretty young Black-crowned Night Heron. He was alone in a marsh, and looking confused.
Where the pines meet marsh food is plentiful, especially small crabs.
It was clear he wasn’t leaving. Others were around so my guess would be he wanted to catch what he could before competition showed up.
I love these shots, Ted, especially the final one. I have seen only adult night herons, never a young one like this.
Last week Night Herons, young and adult, were all around the bigger marshes. I was surprised since their rookery is way out In ‘no man’s land’. 😀😀. Thanks
